I switched from the coolscan and never looked back Only sold it because of a Noritsu. Pakon is a completely different level than coolscan in both speed and color. And if you prefer more neutral colors you can always do 48 bit RAW TIFF scans with the pakon and use negative lab pro (change to gamma 2.2 prior to converting) or manually invert. Resolution of the pakon is sufficient in 99 Do it - you will not look back I promise. Set up is easy, there are guides:) level 1 2 points 1 year ago The Pakon is a pain in the ass to get running, but once it is running its magic. ![]() The only advantages youd have over your Coolscan, though, is that colour accuracy and speed. You have to consider that the Pakon has more moving parts, is older, and requires a Windows XP machine (or virtual machine, but I couldnt get mine working with one). If those things dont bother you and the price is right for you, then by all means go for it. Pakon F135 Free To SendIf you do get it and have any questions about getting it set up, feel free to send me a message level 2 Original Poster 3 points 1 year ago My main concern is just longevity. Like you said it is an older machine and Im not sure theres any third parties that still work on them where as there are still people that service the coolscans. I find scanning a pretty tedious process so I may still end up going with it. Thanks level 1 Fixer smells good. Whats a really good deal for the F135 Ive had a Pakon for a few years now and love it for all of the same reasons others here have listed. Youll have to go through contortions to do anything but color neg film, and youll have to maintain an old XP computer for it, or else mess around with VMs on a modern computer. I guess you may have to do that anyway for the coolscan) level 2 4 points 1 year ago There are scripts available to scan slide film as well as black and white. That being said, I havent had to use them (my F235 does both natively) but the Pakon Facebook group is an excellent resource and people there have been using them with good results. Continue this thread level 2 1 point 1 year ago Did you use both scanners or are you guessing level 1 1 point 1 year ago The only reason for a Pakon would be when you need to scan quickly - but since the Coolscan can even do batch scans for a whole film roll, I would stay with the Coolscan. Its relatively easy to find people that will still service the coolscans. Im thinking of just getting both and comparing them for a bit.
